About Us

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul is an international lay Catholic charitable organization present in 135 countries of the world.

It is composed of ordinary men and women, 700,000 strong, who do incredible things not for themselves, but for others.

Members call themselves “Vincentians” after the recognized patron of charity, St. Vincent de Paul, and membership is open to all Christians wishing to serve the suffering and needy.

There are three types of membership: Active (full), Associate, and contributing.

The basic unit of the Society is the “Conference”, usually parish-based, supported and served by a “Council”. A National Council, instituted by the International headquarters in Paris, officially represents the Society throughout the United States and internationally. The governance of this National Council is vested in a Board presided over by an elected National President and other officers. Because of the vastness of the country, eight regional chairs help facilitate communication and service.
